Tips for selecting a good digicam

2008 June 19

Hello Friends,

Are you planning for a new DIGICam? Then let me explain some points to keep in mind while selecting a good one.

  • Zoom: Optical Zoom of 3.5x is OK but in some new DIGICams 5.0x is also there, its better. We should also know that digital zoom is of no use(as it just amplifies the pixels).
  • Battery: It must have a rechargeable battery like the one used in our cell phones. It mustn’t use pencil cells.
  • Megapixel: We should know that if a DIGICam has more megapixel, then it doesn’t mean that it is a good DIGICam and vice-versa. Mainly 6.0 Megapixel is sufficient for a common man.
  • Memory: Must support SD Card or Compact Flash. Minimum of 1GB card is sufficient but 2GB is better.
  • Features: The more features you have, better is the ease in clicking the pics. So some of the common features are like Face Recognition, Best Shot Selector(BSS), Red Eye Removal, Vibration Reduction, Noise Reduction, Auto Mode and so on. It must have a Flash Gun and video recording.
  • Brands: Mainly market leaders are Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Canon, Casio and many more. It depends on your requirements :-D

Well, friends I hope these many points might not become your yardstick but still I hope it can help you a lot.

Here are few latest DIGICams:
